US Embassy in Kazakhstan and British Council launch a Professional English language training program for journalists

The Embassy of the United States in Kazakhstan and the British Council Kazakhstan are delighted to announce the launch of the Professional English language for journalists program. The program is designed to support Kazakhstan’s aspiration of to develop the professionalism of journalists and expand knowledge of the English language as it becomes a trilingual society.

The program will include both English language training and practical journalism assignments that requiring a knowledge of English. The course will be held in eight cities across Kazakhstan: Almaty, Astana, Aktobe, Aktau, Shymkent, Karaganda, Ust-Kamenogorsk and Kostanai. The program will last for 12 months.

Freelance and staff journalists currently working for Kazakhstani media outlets are eligible to participate in the program. This year, the program does not require participants to meet minimum English language requirements; it is open for journalists who have never learned English before. Those who have participated in previous editions of the Professional English language for journalists program can also apply this year, provided that their knowledge of English is no higher than upper intermediate level.

Applications will be accepted until 11 December 2018. Selected participants will be informed by 25 January 2019. The course will start on 11 February 2019.

The Embassy of the United States in Kazakhstan has been running the Professional English language training program for journalists since 2016. To date over 200 Kazakhstan journalists have completed the program.
