Almaty, Kazakhstan (Kazakh National University) May 1-3, 2014

New Silk Way International Model United Nations is a university-level Model United Nations conference involving participants from across Central and South Asia in Almaty on May 1-3, 2014, with a special focus on debate topics relevant to the region. It will also support smaller conferences in three other cities in Kazakhstan, as well as the participation of Central Asian students in conferences in New Delhi, India. In addition to giving students the opportunity to participate in a Model United Nations conference, the project also will focus on student organizers of Model United Nations conference. The project will provide them with the training necessary to conduct their own local and international conferences, and generally to build viable, dynamic and lasting Model United Nations entities.

The New Silk Way International Model United Nations will bring together future leaders from across the region. The conference will give them an opportunity to discuss and propose solutions for the common problems that their countries face. It also will serve as a networking forum for the region’s political, business and cultural leaders of tomorrow, allowing them to get to know one another and forge relationships that will provide valuable contacts as they move forward in their careers. By giving student leaders a forum in which to discuss issues of mutual, regional concern, the project will support the goals of access to education and cross-border networks and problem solving, as well as, to some extent, cultural heritage and understanding.

The project will be led by Al Farabi Kazakh National University in Almaty, in partnership with the United Nations Information Center in Almaty, Miras University in Shymkent, Nazarbayev University in Astana, and Amanzholov East Kazakhstan State University in Ust-Kamenogorsk.
