Dear people of Kazakhstan,
Today is a National Day of Mourning. I express my deepest condolences to families who lost their relatives and loved ones. In honor of the victims, today the U.S. Embassy will fly its flag at half-staff. COVID-19 has impacted us all – just like in Kazakhstan, the virus has taken the lives of a great many Americans. We all now know someone who was affected by this disease and will likely know more before this passes. We are united by our pain and we mourn together.
Thank you to the front-line medical workers who are working non-stop and risking their lives to save others. Together, we will defeat this virus, of that I have no doubt. I wish you and your families strength and health. Let the names of those untimely deceased remain in our memory forever.
