Assistant Secretary for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs William Brownfield visited Kazakhstan October 22-26 to discuss United States cooperation with Kazakhstan on border security and combatting drug dependence, money laundering, as well as human and narcotics trafficking. Brownfield, one of the top US Diplomats in the US Foreign Service has achieved a rank of Career Ambassador. During his visit to Astana and Almaty, Brownfield met top Kazakhstani law enforcement officials who reviewed Kazakhstani efforts to counter violent extremism and further develop the capacity to fight transnational organized crime and better protect its borders. Meeting with the heads of International Organizations in Astana, Brownfield praised efforts to provide assistance with limited resources. In Almaty, the Assistant Secretary met top UNODC and CARICC officials to discuss regional trends and future cooperation.
