Securing Semipalatinsk-Part II: Infrastructure Elimination
The foundation of Securing Semipalatinsk was the early cooperation between the Defense Threat Reduction Agency and the Government of Kazakhstan following the permanent closure of the Semipalatinsk Test Site. Together, we eliminated the vast infrastructure left behind by the Soviet Union’s legacy of nuclear weapons testing in Kazakhstan in order to prevent the proliferation of nuclear materials and secrets.
