Event: The current Travel Advisory for Kazakhstan is level 4 “Do Not Travel” due to COVID-19. The nationwide curfew, installed in Kazakhstan during the January 2022 period of civil unrest, was lifted at midnight on January 19. U.S. citizens are advised to exercise caution in the case of future protests or civil unrest.
The U.S. government terminated the order for Authorized Departure of non-emergency personnel and family members at U.S. Consulate General Almaty on January 26. The consular section at U.S. Consulate General Almaty remains open and is offering the full range of routine consular services, with COVID-19 restrictions in place.
The airport in Almaty reopened January 13 with flights to international destinations. U.S. citizens are encouraged to check with their air carrier for updates on flight timing and schedules.
