Thirty students from the southern Kazakhstan town of Taraz traveled to Astana on Monday to celebrate their successful completion of the two-year English Access Microscholarship Program. Students thanked the U.S. Embassy for support of the program and presented Ambassador Ordway with a book narrating their Access Program learning. The Ambassador awarded certificates while congratulating them on their learning and encouraging future travel and further study.
The Access Program is a worldwide U.S. Department of State initiative which provides a foundation of English language skills to talented 13-20 year-olds from economically disadvantaged families through after-school classes and summer camps. The U.S. Embassy in Astana supports ten such programs across Kazakhstan and approximately 300 student scholarships.
