Almaty – From October 4 to 10, the U.S. Consulate General and American Space Almaty, in partnership with Chevron, are hosting a week-long celebration of science and technology achievements through a series of fun, creative, and education-related events.
Space Week 2019 will be celebrated around the world in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, under the theme “The Moon: Gateway to the Stars.” The U.S. Mission to Kazakhstan is bringing to Almaty Dr. Shannon Walker, a member of NASA’s 2004 class of astronauts whose career includes serving as Flight Engineer for Expedition 24/25, a long-duration mission aboard the International Space Station that launched from Baikonur in 2010 and lasted 163 days.
The U.S. Consulate General and American Space & Makerspace Almaty, with the support of Chevron, are curating a series of activities and events starting October 4 which will include visits to the Kamenskoye Plato Observatory, roundtables, presentations, art exhibits, workshops, contests and games, free movies, and a cosmic Space Party! Kazakhstani space institutions and future engineers will explore global space industry trends, and the United States’ leading role in, and Kazakhstan’s significant contributions to, this field.
