In June, the U.S. Consulate General in Almaty organized an American Culinary project called “Taste of the American West”. New York City-based chef and author Mark Tafoya spent a week in Almaty, conducting talks at the Almaty American Corner and at a local networking group as well as master classes for young students of the Business Women Association. The main event of the program was a 300-person VIP gala culinary event, hosted in the outdoor garden of the InterContinental Hotel Almaty, featuring traditional American Western cuisine, American music performances and featuring U.S. products and brands.
Chef Mark Tafoya has been featured in the New York Times, USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, Time Out New York and Bon Appetit. He is also Executive Chef and Co-owner and of the Culinary Media Network, an online portal celebrating the pleasures of food and home of the world’s first all-food podcast network. Mark Tafoya is a New York City personal chef, a graduate of Yale University and a former Broadway actor, and his love of travel and food has taken him around the world.
